The ASSE Foundation Recognizes Dr. David G. Kraemer of Murray State University as This Year's Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award
|Des Plaines, IL (April 26, 2010) — The American Society of Safety Engineers’ Foundation (ASSEF) recently announced Dr. David G. Kraemer, Chair of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health at Murray State University (MSU) in Murray, KY, as the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Service Award. Kraemer’s leadership, dedication and commitment to students and the safety profession has been a winning combination for the students of Murray State, as well as the ASSE Foundation.
With thirty-nine years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education, Kraemer currently serves as Chair of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health at MSU, is the Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Training Center and is the Project Director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) training project grant. Kraemer has a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, IL.
In addition to outstanding professional achievements, Kraemer received the 2008-2009 President’s Award from ASSE, was named Murray State’s 2008-2009 Distinguished Professor of the Year, received the 1995-1996 Distinguished Service Award from the Louisville Chapter of ASSE, was elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Safety Education and received Murray State’s Board of Regents’ Award for Teaching Excellence. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and has provided workshops and seminars at the Technological Institute of Costa Rica, as well as for students in the Beijing and Liaoning Provinces of China.
Kraemer served as the Foundation’s Education and Scholarship Chair from 2003-2009. During his term, the scholarship and professional development grant program nearly tripled from $63,000 to $153,000 in awards per year. Foundation Chair Eddie Greer stated, “Dave was instrumental in managing the rapidly growing program and creating guidelines that would award the most funding to the best students. I am honored to have worked with Dave, and I thank him for his leadership and dedication to students and the profession.”
The ASSE Foundation Distinguished Service Award recipients are chosen by the Foundation Chair based on their outstanding achievement, commitment to and support of the ASSE Foundation. The award will be presented to Kraemer during ASSE’s House of Delegates (HOD) meeting at the ASSE Annual Professional Development Conference in Baltimore, MD, on June 13, 2010.
