The ASSE Foundation Awards 31 Professional Development Grants
|Des Plaines, IL (April 13, 2010) — The American Society of Safety Engineers'Foundation (ASSEF) recently announced the 31 recipients of the Professional Development Grant Program, given annually to occupational safety and health practitioners to help them advance in their careers. The grants are supported by contributions from organizations, ASSE Chapters, members and individuals who recognize the value occupational safety and health professionals bring to the workplace.
The grant program provides assistance to safety professionals as they advance their occupational safety, health and environmental careers through certification study courses, professional development seminars or symposiums, educational conferences and college coursework.
The 11 recipients of the Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant, established by ASSE members Del and Betty Tally of Austin, TX, are Caitlin Anderson, Stephen Brown and Terri Sherrill, all awarded $755 for the ASSE Safety 2010 conference registration fee; Richard Bartlebaugh, awarded $675 for an Associated Safety Professional (ASP) preparatory course; John Nadzan, awarded $675 for a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preparatory course; Vicki Christy and Michelle Glover-Brown, both awarded $625 for the ASP/CSP Study Guide; Jeff Spackman, awarded $555 for the ASP/CSP study guides; Bobby Glass, awarded $455 for the ASP test and application fee; Shawn Lewis, awarded $455 for the ASSE Safety 2010 conference registration fee; and Patricia Tomaszewski, awarded $670 for an ASSE virtual seminar/webinar.
The Gabriel Alvarado Professional Development Grant, established by ASSE member Rixio Medina and wife Alejandra, was received by Maribeth Anderson, awarded $790 and Andrea Ball, awarded $755, for the ASP study guide and exam fees. Recipients also include Nicolas Monroy, awarded $615 and Michael O’Toole, awarded $840, both for the ASP preparatory course.
The $500 Gulf Coast Chapter Professional Development Grant was awarded to both Jeffery Chandler and Tom McAvoy for the ASP preparatory course.
Established in honor and memory of ASSE member Terrance M. Hennessy, recipients of the Terrance M. Hennessey Professional Development Grant are Tony Bale, awarded $750 for SeminarFest; Michael Chow, awarded $500 for CSP study materials; Adam Munn, Marta Riojas and Haroon Tabani, all awarded $750 for the CSP preparatory course; Randal Price, awarded $500 for the ASP preparatory course; Jamey Wheeler, awarded $500 for the CSP exam and application fee; and Bryan Williams, awarded $500 for the CSP preparatory course.
This year’s recipients of the Texas Safety Foundation Professional Development Grant include: Michele Ashby, awarded $850 for the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists (CCHEST) workshop; James Greene, awarded $635 for the CCHEST testing fee; Danielle O’Pezio, awarded $390 for the Occupational Health and Safety Technology (OHST) exam and application fee; and Troy Weber, awarded $625 for the OHST workshop.
Established in honor and memory of ASSE Past-President Thomas Reilly and his wife Dorothy, the recipients of the Thomas and Dorothy Reilly Professional Development Grant are Michael Messner and Lorie Sexton. Messner received $500 for safety courses and Sexton received $500 for the ASP preparatory course.
