Des Plaines, IL (March 17, 2009) — In its continued support of safety, health and environmental education and research, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently announced two generous donations from Liberty Mutual Group totaling $45,000, $15,000 from the Liberty Mutual Foundation to fund scholarships and $30,000 from the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (LMRIS) to fund the safety research fellowship program.

The $15,000 donation from Liberty Mutual Foundation will fund the Liberty Mutual scholarship program, which provides two $3,000 scholarships each year. Scholarship recipients will be announced in early April. In addition, recipients will be given the opportunity to attend ASSE’s annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) ‘Safety 2009’ to be held in San Antonio, TX on June 28 – July 1, 2009.

The $30,000 donation from the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (LMRIS) will fund two fellowships at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton, MA. LMRIS fellows will spend four to six weeks during the summer of 2009 at the safety institute, arranged between the fellow and the director of LMRIS after the awarding of the fellowship.
