Caleb Bush family
DES PLAINES, IL (March 4, 2010) – Children from Florida, South Carolina, Virginia and Kuwait were the first place winners in the 8th annual American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) kids’ “safety-on-the-job” poster contest for best illustrating ‘being safe on the job’. ASSE received 850+ posters from children aged 5-14 from 34 U.S. states and six countries for the contest aimed at teaching children what ASSE members -- their parents, relatives and friends -- do every day to prevent injury and illness at work. Unusual this year is that a brother, Michael Bock, 6, and sister, Haley Bock, 10, from North Carolina both won fourth place in their respective age groups out of hundreds of posters, and are past winners. The names of the contestants are not known until after their poster is selected.

Celebrating North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week May 2 – 8, 2010 and Occupational Safety and Health Professional Day May 5, 2010
Please read and follow all the rules carefully so that all posters/drawings will be eligible. The posters that best illustrate Safety on the Job will be selected as winners out of each of the five age groups. Before the children begin drawing, we urge you to talk to them about your job and workplace safety and provide examples of what risks occupational safety, health and environmental professionals address every day on the job, and if possible, provide them with examples of workplace situations. Visit www.asse.org/naosh for examples of children's workplace safety posters and ASSE's "Safety Through the Decades" timeline. Have fun and as they say in the in the Wild, Wild, West "Draw Partner". Also, we hope to see you at our annual poster contest awards ceremony in Washington, D.C, May 3, 2010!
