2012 NAOSH Week Champions

	Heather Earl, CSP – Central Florida Chapter President Strongly helped promote ASSE’s kids “safety on the job” poster contest at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and with local Florida schools, resulting in nearly 200 submissions and four winners. The Central Florida Chapter also hosted a spring PDC the week before NAOSH Week. With her chapter secured close to 20 NAOSH/OSHP Day proclamations.
	Joe Herrity, CPP, CHS, III – Director, Security Department, URS Corporation Increased participation and awareness through URS to promote the annual kids’ poster contest. Travelled with his family to the NAOSH Week kick-off events in Washington, D.C. to greet poster contest winners and parents and to provide additional gifts for the families.
	Amanda Masterson, CSP – Louisville Chapter President Led NAOSH Week promotional efforts by partnering with Louisville mayor’s office to declare NAOSH Week in the city. Provided safety inspections for Kentucky Derby Bed Races, and provided safety assistance for the Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade. Promoted kids’ poster contest, with over 50 posters entered, and one winner.
	Subbarrao Palagummi – Kuwait Chapter President Promotion of kids’ poster contest resulted in 847 entries from Kuwait, and two winners.
	Amy Wangdahl, CSP – National Capital Chapter President Served as the local ASSE ambassador to Society members, guests and poster contest winners from around the country at NAOSH Week kick-off events in Washington, D.C. Arranged for gift packets to be made, and distributed to families as they arrived for the NAOSH program at the U.S. Department of Labor on May 7th.

2011 NAOSH Week Champions

	The Clorox Company is recognized for their commitment to communicating the importance of occupational safety and health and participation in ASSE’s kids’ ‘Safety on the Job’ poster contest. This year ASSE received hundreds of poster entries both internationally and from the U.S. from the children of Clorox Company employees, some of which placed in the top 20. The Clorox Company has gone above and beyond in promoting occupational safety and health to its workers and in educating young artists from around the world about the importance of being safe at work.
	Heather Earl, CSP, of Lake Buena Vista, FL is ASSE’s Florida Chapter president and the manager of safety and health operations at Walt Disney World Resorts. She has promoted the ‘Safety on the Job’ Poster Contest to all Disney employees worldwide and to school children in Florida. In addition, Earl has requested and secured several state, city, and town proclamations for NAOSH Week.
	Jennifer Zipeto, CSP, of Lake Buena Vista, FL is the senior safety and health manager for Walt Disney World Resports, and ASSE’s Florida Chapter PR Chair helped secure several Florida city and county NAOSH proclamations in recent years, has promoted the kids’ ‘Safety on the Job’ poster contest in local schools and communities, and has worked on several efforts to promote NOASH Week, including through online videos.
	Luke Betts is the Western Canada and U.S. Northwest Regions Safety and Health Coordinator for Cintas Corporation and a member of Portland, OR’s Columbia-Williamette Chapter. On his own Betts developed and distributed a program to promote kids’ ‘Safety on the Job’ Poster Contest in the Northwest, which included a power point presentation which was given at schools and workplaces, increasing participation and awareness in the area.
	Louisville Chapter President and Safety Manager for LG&E –KY of Louisville, Michael Neason worked with a local Title 1 school’s art teacher, encouraging students to participate in ASSE’s ‘Safety on the Job’ poster contest, and learn more about occupational safety and health, as well as exercise creativity through art. One of the students who participated placed second in the contest’s 9-10 age group, won a savings bond and was featured in a local Louisville newspaper.
	Through outreach in ASSE’s Kuwait Chapter region, Chapter President Mohammad K.S. Mohiudeen helped hundreds of children enter the ‘Safety on the Job’ poster contest, with several of these entries placed in the top four for their age groups. The Kuwait Chapter also hosts special events where poster contest winners are honored, further promoting awareness of occupational safety and health and providing support for ASSE’s global NAOSH Week programs.
	Deputy Chief for Risk Management for the National Gallery of Art, (NGA) in Washington D.C., Phillip E. Goldsmith, CSP, ARM worked with NGA staff to provide a free program to more than 100 children and family members during the NAOSH kick-off events, and an in-depth presentation and ‘behind-the scenes’ tour of a new construction project at the Gallery for ASSE members and officials, demonstrating onsite work parameters, fall protection measures and how to work with certain materials.

2010 NAOSH Week Champions

Press Release: ASSE Members Receive NAOSH Champion Award for Making a Difference

	F. Robb Altenburg, of Washington, DC, is safety specialist for the Smithsonian Institution, where he organized a NAOSH Week event. He is a member of the National Capital Chapter.
	Along with her South Carolina Chapter, Laura Comstock, CSP, of Lexington, SC, sponsored a poster contest winner and the winner’s family so that they could attend NAOSH Week events in Washington, DC.
	Heather Earl, CSP, of Buena Vista, FL, is manager, safety and health LOB operations for Walt Disney World Resorts. She helped her Central Florida Chapter sponsor more than 100 entries in the Safety-on-the-Job Kids’ poster contest. In addition, Earl and chapter members gathered a record-breaking 17 proclamations from Florida cities and counties.
	D. Kevin Earp, of Charlotte, NC, is director of safety for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He helped promote the Safety-on-the-Job Kids’ poster contest in his area schools. He also sponsored a poster contest winner and the winner’s family so that they could attend NAOSH Week events in Washington, DC. Earp is a professional member of the Tarheel Chapter.
	Christopher Helser, CSP, of Onancock, VA, supported NAOSH Week kick-off events and the Safety-on-the-Job Kids’ poster contest awards. He is employed by NASA-Wallops Island, and is a professional member of the Greater Tidewater Chapter.
	Mary Winkler, CSP, of LaPlata, MD, works for the Smithsonian Institution and is a professional member of the National Capital Chapter. She spearheaded a NAOSH Week event at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
	Michael Wolf, of Columbia, MD, is EHS manager for EVI-ITT Intelligence & Info Warfare. He contributed to NAOSH Week by helping with logistics and proclamations, and he served as a local ambassador to NAOSH Week visitors. Wolf is a professional member of the Chesapeake Chapter.

2009 ASSE NAOSH Champion Award Winners

ASSE NAOSH ’09 Champions for going above and beyond

Charles E. Wigger Jr., CSP, of Evansville, IN, is safety director at Lamar Advertising Evansville. His company donated 10 billboards to promote NAOSH Week across the U.S. Wigger is a professional member of the Audubon Chapter.

Mary E. Winkler, CSP, of La Plata, MD, is safety director for the National Zoo, where one of the NAOSH Week events took place this year. Winkler, a professional member of the National Capital Chapter, helped organize many NAOSH Week events in Washington, DC.

Allan M. Yokoyama, CHST, OHST, STS, of Mililani, HI, organized and hosted an SH&E day in Honolulu to help promote NAOSH Week. He is a safety administrator at Albert C. Kobayashi Inc. and is a member of the Hawaii Chapter.

Robert A. Adams, of Wilsonville, OR, sponsored several children in the annual NAOSH Week Safety-on-the-Job kids' poster contest. Adams is safety manager at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility and is a member of the Columbia-Willamette Chapter.

Michael A. Messner, CSP, CFPS, of Edmond, OK, is a loss control consultant for Union Standard Insurance Co. In support of NAOSH Week, Messner secured a billboard and received several proclamations recognizing the week. He is a professional member of the Oklahoma City Chapter.

Wesley W. Watkins, of Moses Lake, WA, has been a sponsor for children entering the Kid’s Safety Poster Contest for several years. He is health and safety coordinator for Genie Industries and is a member of the Inland Northwest Chapter.

J. Anthony Blythe, CSP, of Bowie, MD, is safety director at W. A. Chester LLC and a professional member of the National Capital Chapter. He garnered several NAOSH Week proclamations and supported the NAOSH Week events in Washington, DC.

The employees of Genie Industries, in Moses Lake, WA, were also recognized as NAOSH Champions for sending two poster contest winners to Washington, DC, for the NAOSH Week activities.
