CSHS names Advisory Council chair and new member

06/16/2017

PARK RIDGE, Illinois –The Center for Safety and Health Sustainability (CSHS) is pleased to announce Darryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP, as its new Advisory Council chair, and Malcolm Staves as its newest Advisory Council member.

Hill is the global director of EHS Governance & Product Stewardship at Abbott, and served as president of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in 2010-11. He is the current chair of the ASSE Foundation as well as an Occupational Safety and Health Program Evaluator for ABET, assistant adjunct professor for Oakland University’s Occupational Safety and Health Program, a published author, and an international speaker.

“We are privileged to have Darryl as Advisory Council chair given his experience in occupational safety and health sustainability, especially in global leadership roles at multinational companies,” said Kathy A. Seabrook, chair of the CSHS Board of Directors. “His leadership will help shape the future of CSHS, influencing Board decisions and strategy to assure that occupational safety and health are core to sustainability reporting.”

CSHS also welcomes Staves to its Advisory Council, taking the position vacated by Hill. Since 2008, Staves has been the corporate health and safety director at the Paris-based headquarters of L’Oréal, where his responsibilities include the development of group health, safety and fire prevention strategies. “Malcolm has extensive experience in occupational safety and health sustainability, with an impressive record of improving safety performance,” Seabrook said. “His perspectives will be a major asset for us, and his contributions will extend our global network.”

Staves has a background in chemical engineering and a master of science degree in Integrated Environmental Management, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources. He formerly worked as a site engineering technologist and plant manager, compiling 25 years of international experience in safety and health across several industries.

“I’m honored to join the Center’s Advisory Council as I find that our values and objectives for safety and health in the workplace are completely aligned,” Staves said. “People are at the heart of all organizations and deserve not to be injured on the job. I strongly support workplace safety strategies, and I’m eager to play my part at CSHS.”

As the new chair, Hill succeeds Zack Mansdorf, Ph.D., CSP, CIH, QEP, whose term is ending. Mansdorf has chaired the council since the Center’s inception in 2011 in addition to serving on its Board of Directors. A past president of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, Mansdorf is the principle author of CSHS’s  2016 Best Practices Guide for OHS in Sustainability Reports. He plans to continue his work in occupational safety and health as a consultant.

“We can’t thank Zack enough for his influence on the Center, as well as his success at moving the needle for occupational safety and health sustainability on an international level,” Seabrook said. “He provided dynamic leadership with deep knowledge across industry sectors globally, helping to bring CSHS to where it is today.”

The Center for Safety and Health Sustainability (CSHS), established in 2011, is a not-for-profit organization committed to advancing the safety and health sustainability of the global workplace. CSHS engages safety and health partners around the world to work toward minimum standards that help reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.
