ASSE Foundation Seeks Applicants for $275,000 in Scholarships and Professional Educational Grants

PARK RIDGE, Illinois - (Sept. 22, 2016) – The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation is offering more than $275,000 in scholarships and educational grants to students looking to complete their studies in occupational safety and health or professionals seeking to continue their education in the field.

The ASSE Foundation receives contributions from ASSE members, their families, Society Chapters and Regions, and corporations motivated to support the occupational safety and health (OSH) profession. Last year, 86 scholarships were awarded to students representing 44 US-based universities, and 22 professional grants were awarded to safety professionals seeking to advance their credentials in OSH.

“We encourage students and professionals in the safety field to submit applications for these scholarships and grants,” said ASSE Foundation Chair Darryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP. “Thanks to the contributions of our donors, the Foundation is able to complete this important part of our mission.”

Learn more about scholarships or grants by visiting foundation.asse.org or apply directly online.   The deadline to apply for scholarships or grants is December 1, 2016.

In 2017, the largest awards will be Impact Scholarships given in the last year of 3-year $250,000 donation by Applications International Corporation (AIC). In 2016, AIC’s gift funded six Impact Scholarships:  one at $15,000 and five at $10,000, with a preference to those that have served in the military and are attending a school where the safety degree program is ABET-accredited.

Organizations that partner with the Foundation include AON, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), CNA Financial Corporation, Johnson Controls, Inc., Liberty Mutual Insurance, Parsons Corporation, and UPS.

Other awards, which range in amounts from $1,000 to $7,500, offer students and professionals support in advancing their education. Scholarship applications are open to students earning OSH degrees who have completed at least 60 hours of safety-related coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Grant applications are open to anyone seeking additional professional education in the safety field.
