ASSE provides a variety of technical

Journal of SH&E
Research, is an online peer-reviewed journal covering a wide variety
of safety, health and environmental issues and practices. The audience
is for both SH&E academics and practitioners.
ASSE is the secretariat for nine standards committees and serving on 40 other standard setting committees having an impact on over 100 standards. ASSE members serve as volunteer representatives on many of these committees.

Issues around U.S. government policy help guide the profession and have impact on international standards and best practices. Regardless of your location, you can have a voice in Washington and help to influence policy in national safety standards development. ASSE conducts programs and activities to represent and protect members’ interests at the state and federal levels. We also support critical SH&E legislation, provide expert testimony to Congress and monitor government activities to ensure that SH&E legislation is based on sound science.

Contribute to shaping the future of the safety field by participating in task forces and committees, and working with other safety professionals on issues facing the industry today. Leaders also are provided opportunities to gain additional leadership skill training that assist them in their committee work as well as their job. ASSE is a member driven society. Members are placed in local chapters who represent their chapter members at the region-level. Elected Regional Vice Presidents represent members from their Region on the Council on Member and Region Affairs and the Society’s Board of Directors. Members serve on other councils and committees and are represented by an elected leader. These include the Council on Practices and Standards, Council on Professional Development and the Council on Professional Affairs as well as the Finance Committee. Members are also represented on the House of Delegates by elected representatives from Chapters, Practice Specialties and the Board of Directors.
Awards and Honors ASSE recognizes members who dedicate their time and expertise to ensure a bright future for the safety profession. The Society’s public relations team keeps safety and you in the forefront of news media to advance safety awareness, knowledge and the safety profession. As an ASSE member, you can participate in public relations training and become one of the society’s team of members to address the media on SH&E matters. Participate in recognition events including the North American Occupational Safety Week, Occupational Safety and Health Professional’s Day, Safety-on-the-Job Poster Contest and more. Members are in action with the media on a local and society level.
The foundation generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation and related academic initiatives to advance the SH&E profession. In 2010, more than $150,000 in scholarships and professional development grants were made available.

ASSE Society dues and fees depend on the country of employment and citizenship. The base total payment in the US is $170 ($130 Society dues, $15 Chapter dues and a $25 application fee). Practice Specialties are an additional $20 each. The total payment outside of the US ranges from $85 to $160 which includes a $25 application fee and includes a $15 Chapter fee where applicable.
