High-Performance Leadership
The colossal business failures of the past few years demonstrate that emotion-based, reactive decisions have a direct and dangerous impact on an organization’s long-term performance. Proactive, fact-based decisions, lead to sustainable high performance. Leaders can learn to model proactive behaviors such as confronting harsh realities, leveraging the talents of individuals and the team, adapting quickly to change and finding opportunities in challenging times. When leaders model these behaviors they are more likely to make decisions that balance long- and short-term performance.
Susan Annunzio, former Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business, will provide her insight on leadership strategy for an environment that drives high performance. Ms. Annunzio is also the author of three prominent business books, including Contagious Success, which uncovered a global standard on the factors that accelerate and inhibit high performance.

Leaders, essentially, take risks, lead from the front, expand and grow an organization and they push boundaries, demanding from their followers to go into uncharted territories. The safety profession goes the other way, demanding from its followers: don't take risks; stay within the boundaries of the provided systems or procedures; and comply. In this session, you will learn the key practices of leadership and those actions that are most effective for safety.

Using materials developed by the internationally respected Harvard Business School, Program on Negotiation (and the authors of "Getting to Yes"), you will participate in simulated negotiations to learn to separate people from the problem and turn differences into mutual gain.

In this session, you will learn methods to sustain effective leadership that will assure your organization of a secure future for safety and health programs.
Leadership Strategies That Work Best, Generation by Generation
Certain leadership behaviors are positively associated in the contemporary workplace with one generation that may have the opposite impact on another. The majority of your workforce fall into one of three generations, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y and represent divided reactions and unique preferences for leadership behaviors. In this session, you will identify leadership behaviors receptive to each generation and adapt your leadership skills to maximize safety initiatives in a generationally diverse environment.

Transformational Safety Leadership
The concept of transformational leadership was initially introduced by leadership expert and presidential biographer James MacGregor Burns. According to Burns, transformational leadership can be seen when “leaders and followers make each other advance to a higher level of morale and motivation." Through the strength of their vision, transformational leaders are able to inspire followers to change expectations, perceptions and motivations to work towards common goals. In this session, you will explore this concept one step further and learn to apply this powerful leadership approach to achieve successful safety management.

Decision-making is an essential skill for success in any leadership role. A Meta Decision is an umbrella-type decision that impacts all of the smaller decisions that come thereafter. It is made with the intention of impacting or replacing a number of future decisions. In Corporate Safety, Meta Decisions apply to both the theory and practice of motivating individuals and organizations to reduce human error, change behavior and make powerful decisions about embracing key safety initiatives. Join this session to learn about and practice the Meta Decision model.

Your Seat at the Decision-Making Table is Ready
You need management to support and fund your safety initiatives, but how do you do that? You must understand how to get and keep a seat at the decision-making table. That seat is ready for the safety leader and in this session, you will learn how to achieve that connection with senior leadership of your organization. Some of the steps you will learn include identification of your company’s formal and informal power structure, the traits needed to affect change and effective communication with the leaders of your organization.
