Professional Education Grant Program Frequently Asked Questions

Q: If I want to apply for more than one professional education grant, do I need to fill out more than one application?
A: No, by completing our online application, you will automatically be considered for all awards.

Q: When is the deadline for this application?
A: December 1, 2013, 11:30pm. Your application must be 100% complete before submitting.  If any section’s bar does not read 100%, the system will not allow you to submit your application. 

Q: Can I fax or e-mail a printed copy of this online application?
A: No, your application must be submitted online, no exceptions.

Q: Are students eligible for PE grants?
A: No. If you are eligible for our scholarship program, you are not eligible for our PE grant program. Grants are designed for continuing education via seminars, conferences, certification, etc. If you are a professional (employed or unemployed) or an ASSE member at the regular or professional level) seeking financial assistance for those reasons, you are eligible. If you are a full-time or part-time student, you are not.

Q: Are your professional education grants offered to non-US citizens?
A: Yes, all of our professional education grants are available to non-U.S. citizens.

Q: Do I need to be an ASSE member in order to be eligible for your professional education grants?
A: ASSE membership is not required, but it is strongly preferred.

Q: Are students eligible for professional education grants?
A: No. You must be a member (regular or professional level) or a professional (employed or unemployed) in order to be eligible for a PE grant. These grants are designed for the non-traditional student.

Q: How do I apply for ASSE membership?
A: Contact ASSE's Customer Service Department at 847-699-2929 or visit us online at www.asse.org/membership/becomeamember.php.

Q: If I am selected for an award, how will I be notified?
A: Grant recipients will be notified in April 2014.  In addition, the award recipients' names will be posted on the Foundation website. You will not be contacted if you are not selected. You can log into the application and check the status of your application at any time.

Q: If I already received a Foundation professional education grant in previous years, am I eligible to apply again?
A: Sorry, applicants are not eligible for subsequent awards this year due to limited funding.

Q: Are travel expenses (airfare, hotel and mileage) to a seminar or conference covered under your grant program?
A: No.  At this time, they are not considered an eligible expense.  Due to limited funding, travel expenses will not be considered for reimbursement.  Only submit requests for registration fees, exam fees or college coursework.

Q: If I am selected for an award when will I receive my check?
A: Your grant check will be issued once you provide the ASSE Foundation with a certificate of completion, receipt or proof that you attended the event/class/seminar in which you applied.
