Tom Reilly Biography
Chicago native Thomas Reilly, who passed away in May 2006, was a dedicated professional member of ASSE since 1957, and served as ASSE president from 1984-1985. He also served as president of the Reilly Associates Safety Consultants, Ltd. upon retiring from Schirmer Engineering Corporation, where he served as the director of safety and health.
In addition, Reilly served in the army from 1945-1946. Throughout his career he was dedicated to protecting people, property and the environment; and contributed to several ideas including the red, white and blue paint on mail trucks; the stop sign arm on school buses; the conical cement barrier on highways and freeways; the safety warning on equipment and products for Consumer Product Safety Commission; and safety standards for American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
