The ASSE Heart of America Chapter Focuses on Key Safety Topics at Annual Meeting
WHAT: To provide professional development opportunities for safety, health and environmental professionals, the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Heart of America Chapter, in conjunction with the Mid-America Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the Safety Sciences Department of the university of Central Missouri, will host a Professional Development Conference (PDC) for safety, health and environmental professionals in April, 2011.

WHY: The Heart of America Chapter values continuing education opportunities for safety professionals. The April 1, 2011 PDC will feature general sessions and subject tracks for attendees, including general industry, construction, transportation and industrial hygiene specialized sessions. Attendees will also engage with 50+ exhibitors who will be demonstrating the latest in services, equipment, technology and supplies relevant to the safety, health and environmental (SH&E) profession. In addition to excellent presentations, attendees will receive breakfast, breaks and a buffet lunch included in the registration fee, CEU’s for CSP’s and CM’s. The program’s closing presentation will include an electrical safety demonstration, presented by Glen Maughmer, KCP&L, and Shawn Spiwak, KCP&L. After 7 years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman, Spiwak came in contact with a 7,200 volt line and will use his experiences to help educate attendees about the importance of electrical safety and how to identify hazards.

Registration fees are $100 for ASSE or AIHA members, $120 for non-members, and $20 for students or faculty. Groups of 5 or more attendees from the same organization receive special rates at $80 per person for members and $100 per person for non-members. For those who are traveling from outside the Kansas City, MO, area a special room rate of $89.00 has been secured with the local Hampton Inn, located at 4233 North Corrington Ave., Kansas City, MO.
