Santa Fe, Texas Safety Professional Cindy Lewis Receives Prestigious Awards From American Society of Safety Engineers
Santa Fe, TX (July 10, 2008) — For her ongoing volunteer work and commitment to protecting people, property and the environment, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) presented Cindy L. Lewis of Santa Fe, TX, with the Training & Communications Branch Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award and the ASSE President’s Award from the Society President at ASSE’s annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) held last month in Las Vegas, NV.
Lewis received the SPY award for her involvement and commitment to the ASSE Training & Communications Branch of the Risk Management and Insurance (RM/I) Practice Specialty. In 2005, she founded the ASSE Training & Communications Branch and since its inception it has gained more than 1,000 members. Currently, Lewis serves as the chair of the Training & Communications Branch. Lewis received the President’s Award for her role on the Public Relations Committee and for her consistent influence and service to youth through the annual North American Occupational Safety and Health Week, which runs May 3-9, 2009, and Houston Youth Rules! Rally, Job & Career Fair, which celebrated its fifth year of success in 2008.
As an active professional member of ASSE, Lewis has taken on various leadership roles in the organization. At the local level she serves as president of the ASSE Gulf Coast Chapter based in Houston, Texas. Regionally, she currently serves as Region III Treasurer. Nationally, along with serving as the Training & Communications Branch chair, she serves on the Public Relations and Professional Development Conference Planning Committees. Lewis is also a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
Lewis currently serves as principal of Creative Safety Solutions located in Santa Fe, Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and a Masters of Science in public health (environmental and occupational health sciences) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her past awards include the ASSE Gulf Coast Chapter SPY award, ASSE Regional SPY award and the ASSE Charles V. Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer award.
The Practice Specialty SPY awards are given to candidates for their contributions to an ASSE practice specialty. A committee of peers chooses the candidates for each practice specialty. Practice Specialties include academics, construction, consultants, engineering, environmental, healthcare, industrial hygiene, international, management, mining, public sector, RM/I and transportation. The ASSE President’s Award is given out by the Society President to recognize those who have provided exceptional service to ASSE throughout the year.
