Saginaw, MN Safety Pro David Evans Receives Prestigious Award from American Society of Safety Engineers

Saginaw, MN (August 24, 2009) — For his continued support of the occupational safety and health profession and his ongoing effort to protect people, property and the environment, David J. Evans, CSP, of Saginaw, MN, recently received the Manufacturing Practice Specialty (PS) Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

Evans serves as area safety manager for United Taconite LLC in MN, a Cliffs Natural Resources company. He became interested in safety during a 10 year U.S. Army career, which included an assignment as a chemical decontamination platoon leader while stationed in Germany. Evans has a Masters degree in safety and risk control management from the University of Wisconsin Stout. After graduate school, Evans worked for Wausau Insurance and later at the Ford Motor Company for 15 years eventually serving as corporate safety engineering with the glass division of Automotive Component Holdings. In 2005, Evans received the Ford Motor Company Safety Professional of the Year award.

As an active professional member of ASSE for more than 10 years, he serves as professional development conference chair and as the 2009 roundtable scribe for the Manufacturing PS. He has been active at the chapter, regional and society level of ASSE serving in various volunteer positions with the ASSE Tulsa Chapter, ASSE Region III and the Manufacturing PS. He is also a current member of the ASSE Northwest Chapter in MN as well as a member of the engineering, fire protection, management and mining practice specialties.

The practice specialty SPY awards recognize achievement of safety professionals in the specialized areas of ASSE’s practice specialties and pay tribute to their outstanding accomplishments in these areas. Practice specialties include: academics, construction, consultants, engineering, environmental, fire protection, healthcare, industrial hygiene, international, management, manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, public sector, risk management/insurance (RM/I), and transportation.
