SANTA ANA, CA (November 30, 2011) – The Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers
(ASSE) awarded a $500 grant to long time member, James Gunderson, ARM, of
Mission Viejo, California, which will assist Gunderson in advancing his career
as a safety professional by helping finance his pursuit of additional
professional certifications.

Gunderson, a safety,
security and risk management professional, applied for the grant which is
offered by the ASSE Orange County chapter to members for such endeavors.

Chapter President Georgette
Quinn, OHST, and Phillip Combest, CSP, ARM, chapter awards and honors chair,
presented the award to Gunderson at the monthly chapter meeting held last November
16 in Santa Ana.

“Professional certifications and designations are the hallmark of the consummate safety,
health, and environmental professional,” said Combest, noting that the majority
of the Orange County chapter members hold one or more professional
certifications.

“The Orange County
Chapter wants to support its members in pursuing professional development and
certifications so we offer study groups, technical meetings, and even expense
reimbursement programs to benefit our members,” added Quinn.

Currently, an
independent loss control representative, Gunderson will use the grant to become
a certified safety professional (CSP), which he hopes will lead to a full-time
occupational safety position.

Originally chartered in
1973, the ASSE Orange County chapter serves Orange, Riverside, and San
Bernardino Counties.  The chapter is
