NY City Chapter Hurricane Sandy Fundraiser Slated for Thursday, Nov. 29

WHAT: To help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, the American Society of Safety Engineers NY City Chapter will hold a fundraising event Thursday, November 29. The ASSE members, occupational safety, health and environmental professionals committed to protecting people, property and the environment, work in all industries. Many of the NY City Chapter members were also hit hard by the storm. While working to assist in the clean-up and reconstruction efforts as well as helping the victims directly they have found much is needed to help in the clean-up and rebuilding process especially with safety.
All proceeds will be used to purchase personal protection equipment (PPE — dust masks, safety glasses and gloves) for distribution to clean-up workers. All items will be donated to the following NYC nonprofit neighborhood organizations: New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), Jackson Heights, NY; Centro Del Immigrante of Staten Island/Project Hospitality, Staten Island, NY; while food, blankets and baby supplies will be donated to Southern Long Island –Viscardi Center.

COST: $20.00 (Tax Deductible Contribution) – Full Admission Price Will Be Donated to Hurricane Sandy Relief. Additional donations are encouraged. Admission includes free appetizers. There will be a cash bar & 50/50.
GOAL: The fundraising goal is $5,000; ASSE NY City Chapter will MATCH up to $2500 in donations!
If unable to attend the event, you can still donate! The ASSE Foundation will accept donations on behalf of the NY City Chapter’s efforts at http://www.asse.org/foundation/contribute/donation.php. Just write in “Sandy PPE Fund.” One hundred percent of the funds will be used to purchase PPE for the Sandy recovery.
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) was founded in October of 1911 following the tragic March 25, 1911 NY City Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire that took the lives of 146 women and men working that day.
