Liberty Mutual Group Supports Safety Research and Education Through the ASSE Foundation
Des Plaines, IL (January 10, 2012) — The Liberty Mutual Group continues to
support research and education in the safety, health and environmental
(SH&E) profession through the American Society of Safety Engineers’
Foundation (ASSEF) and has made a generous $30,000 contribution for 2012. The donation will fund The Liberty Mutual
Safety Research Fellowship Program, encouraging research activities in
occupational safety and health, and providing a forum for safety professionals
to guide research based on industry needs, which reflects Liberty Mutual’s
mission of “helping people live safer, more secure lives.”
The application period for the ASSEF Liberty Mutual
Research Fellowship Program is now open and applications will be accepted
through February 1, 2012. Those selected
as Liberty Mutual fellows will spend four to six weeks during the summer of 2012
at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety located in Hopkinton MA, and
will receive a stipend for living expenses.
Additionally, fellows will write an 800 word article explaining their
research results for either the ASSE Foundation newsletter, or for ASSE’s
Professional Safety Journal.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent
residents, and must possess a doctoral degree or be working towards a master’s
or doctorate. Preference will be given to applicants holding appointments or
enrolled in a department with an ABET accredited safety program. Members of ASSE will receive special
consideration for this fellowship. The
