Honolulu, HI Safety Professional Jim Newberry Receives Prestigious Award From American Society of Safety Engineers
|Honolulu, HI (July 23, 2009) — For his continued support of the occupational safety and health profession and his ongoing effort to protect people, property and the environment, Jim Newberry, CHST, of Honolulu, HI, recently received the Risk Management/Insurance (RM/I) Practice Specialty (PS) Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
Newberry currently serves as assistant vice president and risk control manager for the Island Insurance Company, Ltd. As an active professional member of ASSE, he currently serves as assistant administrator for the RM/I PS and is also a member of the Management PS. For the past two years, Newberry also served as publications editor for the RM/I PS. As a member of the ASSE Hawaii Chapter, he has served in a variety of chapter leadership positions including serving as chapter president and most recently Hawaii Chapter webmaster. He also served on the ASSE Loss Control Symposium Task Force.
In addition to volunteering with ASSE, Newberry is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Hawaii Section where he served as section director and webmaster. He also served as the Awards Committee vice chair for the Governor’s Pacific Rim Safety and Health Conference in Hawaii, is a member of the Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health (HIOSH) Advisory Committee, and is a Veterans of Safety (VOS) Hawaii Chapter member and charter member of their Professional Pier Group.
The Practice Specialty SPY awards recognize achievement of safety professionals in the specialized areas of ASSE’s Practice Specialties and pay tribute to their outstanding accomplishments in these areas.
