ASSE’s WISE Group Honors NJ’s Ann Minzner Conley as One of 100 Women Making a Difference

The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group has honored 100 women from around the world for making a difference in safety, health and the environment (SH&E).  Ann Minzner Conley of Somerset, NJ, was honored for her lifelong dedication to protecting people, property and the environment.

Minzner Conley has more than 25 years of experience in the safety, health and environmental (SH&E) field and is a  Vice President of Loss Control Services at the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies and a global leader in the area of product safety.  She is responsible for developing risk assessment methods that drive underwriting decisions for Chubb’s general liability insurance portfolio and strives to engage Chubb’s commercial clients in active risk reduction strategies.   Minzner Conley has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Tufts University and an M.S. in technology and policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she earned her department’s Leadership Award.  Her thesis, which focused on accident prevention in chemical processing, received the Best Thesis Award and continues to be a valuable safety reference document for the industry.

The loss control area of the commercial insurance industry has been a primary focus for Minzner Conley, leading to the development of best practices that ultimately reduces potential for loss for Chubb’s clients and the company itself.  She has done extensive work in the area of product safety with several top manufacturers, leading to reduction in risk and reduced potential for losses on all fronts.  She has presented on the topics of product safety and risk management at forums worldwide, including ASSE’s annual Professional Development Conference, the Food and Drug Law Institute’s Products Liability Conference, and the University of Wisconsin’s Annual Product Liability Conference.  Minzner Conley has also authored several key papers on the topic of risk assessment, including an article published in the September, 2010, issue of the Journal of Commerce, titled, “Total Recall: Remember These Things,” which provides guidance for companies regarding preventing and responding to product recalls.

Minzner Conley is an active member of the New Jersey Chapter of ASSE.  In addition to her many professional accomplishments, she was also recognized in 2010 as an Outstanding Women of Somerset Country, selected for her positive impact on businesses.

The 100 Women, Making a Difference in Safety project honors women who have dedicated their careers to promoting innovation in safety, health and environmental issues.  The valuable contributions of women to the SH&E profession have been recognized through this project and later this year WISE will consolidate the profiles of all 100 honorees into a single publication, titled 100 Women, Making a Difference in the Safety, Health and Environmental Profession as part of ASSE’s (1911-2011) 100th anniversary.
