ASSE’s Northwest Chapter Receives Large Chapter of the Year Award
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is proud to announce that the Northwest Chapter has been awarded the Large Chapter of the Year Award. The Northwest Chapter will be honored with the award at the annual ASSE Professional Development Conference (PDC) in Chicago, IL, June 12 – June 15, 2011.
The Northwest Chapter of ASSE was chartered in August of 1943 and has grown to more than 700 members. Based in St. Paul, MN, the Region V chapter’s geographical area includes North Dakota, most of South Dakota and Minnesota, as well as 22 counties in Wisconsin. Also supported by the Northwest Chapter are student sections at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The chapter holds regular meetings, participates in local trade shows and events to spread the word about ASSE and make a difference in its surrounding communities.
With dedication to growing chapter membership and raising awareness about the occupational safety and health profession, the Northwest Chapter has gone to great lengths to ensure all of its members have access to materials and participation, even if they live too far to attend chapter meetings in person. Leading the way when it comes to technology, the Northwest Chapter has grown considerably in its ability to reach its members. In the past year, the chapter was able to develop video and audio recordings of chapter meetings with the assistance of CLMI Safety Training, so that members who are unable to attend meeting have access through the chapter web site.
Chapter President (2009-2010) Scott Huberty stated, “As a chapter, we began a steady, deliberate process to transform the Northwest Chapter into a group that was growing, active and generating excitement for the safety professionals of the Midwest. Through new technology and reaching out to our membership, we were able to accomplish great things this year and I thank you for this great honor in recognition of our chapter’s hard work and dedication.”
All chapters who wish to be considered for the chapter of the year awards must be nominated by their ASSE Regional Vice President and are chosen based on their activities, application and information provided to the judging committee. To be nominated, all chapters must first earn a Chapter Star. The Chapter Stars Recognition Program is intended to recognize Chapters that give their members superior service by providing quality programs designed to advance the professional growth of their members, support the mission and vision of ASSE and make a positive impact on the people, property and environment in their community.
Founded in 1911 and celebrating its centennial, the Des Plaines, IL-based ASSE is the oldest professional safety society and is committed to protecting people, property and the environment.
