ASSE’s Inland Northwest Chapter to Raffle 100th Anniversary Celebration Commemorative Quilt

Posted in on Wed, Aug 31, 2011

In honor of the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) 100th anniversary celebration, the Inland Northwest Chapter, located in Spokane, WA, will raffle off a handmade quilt made by the Seaport Quilters, constructed specifically for this momentous occasion.  ASSE, founded in 1911 as the United Society of Casualty Inspectors, has grown over the last century into a group of nearly 34,000 safety professionals worldwide.

The Seaport Quilters, a nonprofit group established in 1982, donated a significant amount of time to complete the handmade 100th anniversary quilt.  The quilt was completed by groups of four and five quilters in less than 45 days and features ASSE logos, the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week logo and ASSE’s 100th anniversary logo against a backdrop of beautifully quilted green and gold material.  Lori Hatch, Chairman of the Inland Northwest Chapter’s 100 year celebration project, helped commission the quilt.

The quilt will be raffled off at the Inland Northwest Chapter’s October 10, 2011, meeting, and the proceeds will benefit training, chapter sponsored events and membership education for members of the Inland Northwest Chapter.  Raffle tickets are $5.00 per ticket and can be purchased online through the Chapter’s web site at  For more information, please contact Rick Bennett, Inland Northwest Chapter Treasurer, at

The Seaport Quilters has more than 150 members who donate their time and talents to creating quilts for those in need in their local communities.  They also provide educational workshops and exhibitions about quilting and its rich history.
