The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is proud to announce that the Greater Chicago Chapter has been awarded the Medium Chapter of the Year Award. The Greater Chicago Chapter is a chapter of the year award winner for the third year in a row and was named the small chapter of the year in 2007 and medium chapter of the year in 2009. The Greater Chicago Chapter will be honored with the award at the annual ASSE Professional Development Conference (PDC) in Chicago, IL, June 12 – June 15, 2011.
Since its inception in 1950, the Greater Chicago Chapter has significantly contributed to the mission of ASSE and has grown its membership during the last 61 years. With over 300 members and a commitment to protecting people, property and the environment, the Greater Chicago Chapter is continuously contributing to the field. The chapter is working locally to develop greening industry safety standards, a “Breakfast with OSHA” series geared toward small businesses in struggling neighborhoods and a graduate student mentoring program with the chapter’s University of Illinois at Chicago student section. The chapter also organizes community events such as food drives and continues to be an active force in the Northern Illinois area. At ‘Safety 2010,’ in Baltimore, MD, the chapter manned ASSE’s 100th Anniversary booth at its record-breaking exposition, working tirelessly to help spread the message about the milestone year for the Society and encourage participation from conference attendees. We have a passion for the safety profession and what we do, whether at home, on the job, or as volunteers. Not that long ago, we were falling apart at the seams, but we persevered, grew our membership and through hard work and dedication we arrived at the point we are today. Thank you for this great honor.”
