ASSE’s Central Illinois Chapter Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Posted in on Fri, Mar 18, 2011

The Central Illinois Chapter of the 100-year-old American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary of protecting people, property and the environment in the Central Illinois area.  Since its official charter in 1951, the Central Illinois Chapter and its members have witnessed six decades of drastic change to the occupational safety and health profession and advancements in the safety, health and environmental field.  The rise of technology and changes in the way business is done on a global scale has influenced the Society as a whole and its individual chapters.  In honor of this milestone event, the Chapter celebrated formally with an anniversary dinner on February 8, 2011, attended by more than 60 ASSE members, Chapter past presidents and student section members.

During the celebratory meeting, Region V Vice President Maribeth Anderson, of Chicago, IL, was present and congratulated the Chapter leaders and members for their hard work and dedication to the safety, health and environmental profession through work with the Central Illinois Chapter.  Student members from the Illinois State University student section participated in the festivities and noted their anticipation for involvement with ASSE as future safety leaders.  Chapter past presidents were also invited to partake in the festivities and past president Mac Fuller (2003-2005) journeyed from Florida to be a part of the milestone event.

When asked about his experiences with ASSE, past president Steve Nolan (1978-1979) stated, “ASSE has made a world of difference in my career.  Becoming a chapter officer early in my career and networking opportunities with other members helped me become more successful than I ever imagined.  ASSE is the one organization that has been a constant over the years.”

The Central Illinois Chapter currently has more than 190 members and the Illinois State University Student Section has 37 members.  For more information about the Central Illinois Chapter, please visit
