CHICAGO, Ill. (May 14, 2014) – The American Society of Safety Engineers, the world’s oldest professional safety society, encourages safety professionals to register for NIGERIA PDC 2014, a three-day professional development conference and exposition in Lagos, Nigeria on May 21-23, 2014.

This marks the first time ASSE’s Nigeria Chapter will host a professional development conference (PDC) targeting an audience of the country’s safety practitioners from a wide variety of industries including oil and gas, construction, manufacturing and many others.

“We couldn’t be more proud of hosting our first PDC in Lagos,” said ASSE Nigeria Chapter President Jeff ‘Vwede Obahor. “As our economy continues to grow, the importance of giving a voice to safety has never been more important. Safety professionals and captains of industries will gain invaluable insight that will help them do their jobs better.”

Nigeria, which is ranked as Africa’s top economy, according to recent government data, and listed as an emerging market by the World Bank, is experiencing enormous growth with its oil reserves and the construction projects needed to bolster its infrastructure.

“One of ASSE’s goals is to reach safety professionals all over the globe,” said ASSE’s Senior Vice President, Michael Belcher, CSP. “The enthusiasm the ASSE Nigeria Chapter has brought to this event will go a long way toward bringing the best practices in occupational health and safety to the continent.”

The conference, which will be held at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island in Lagos, is expected to attract hundreds of participants and have exhibitors from within and outside Nigeria.
