ASSE Members Appointed to National Fire Protection Association Committees
Des Plaines, IL (December 29, 2006) — The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently announced the appointment of ASSE Member and Foundation Trustee Stephen Bennett, ARM, from Lombard, IL, to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Electrical Safety in the Workplace as a principal member representing ASSE and ASSE Professional Member H. Shane Ashby, CSP, from Paris, TN, to the NFPA Technical Correlating Committee on Health Care Facilities as an alternate to ASSE Member Wayne L. Brannan, ARM, from Charleston, SC, representing ASSE.
As representatives of ASSE on the two aforementioned NFPA committees, Bennett and Ashby will assist in the development of standards that contribute to workplace safety.
Bennett said, “It is important for safety, health and environmental professionals and ASSE to be active in organizations such as the NFPA, because the NFPA helps develop critical sets of protocols, such as the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, to mitigate catastrophic injury in the workplace. I am very pleased to help represent ASSE in the development of these standards in coordination with NFPA.”
“Being a member of ASSE provides a person with many opportunities,” said Ashby. “Serving on an NFPA Technical Committee is an opportunity to have influence in the development of the standards we are tasked to enforce. Input from safety practitioners working in the field ensures the standards are meaningful and have a positive impact on the safety of the environment. ASSE promotes the advancement of the SH&E profession and its members by providing these opportunities which also lead to increased workplace safety.”
