ASSE Leadership Conference Aims To Enhance Members’ Skills
Des Plaines, IL (August 18, 2009) — To assist its members in their leadership roles at their companies and in their communities, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will be host to its annual Leadership Conference for members only this October 1 – 3 in Lombard, IL.
“This is a valuable conference for ASSE as we help our members — chapter officers, practice specialty administrators/assistant administrators, chapter committee chairs, deputy regional vice presidents, area directors, or ASSE committee/task force members – by providing them tools and programs aimed at becoming a more effective leader,” ASSE President C. Christopher Patton, CSP, said today. “For two days attendees will be able to meet fellow Society leaders from around the world, learn real-world deliverables to take back to chapters and employers, new skills and techniques, while earning continuing education credits and making lasting professional and personal relationships.”
The ASSE Leadership Conference helps volunteer members gain insight and hear about ideas from a variety of speakers and fellow members to help them increase their leadership skills as Society leaders, at their companies and in their community. The conference, free to ASSE members, draws attendees from around the world. It features networking receptions, interactive keynote presentations, skills assessment, programs on overcoming challenges in leadership positions; leadership breakout and discussion sessions; global networking opportunities; interaction with ASSE society leadership and concurrent roundtable and workshop sessions. ASSE staff will also present updates on issues and activities.
“Volunteer leaders are the power behind ASSE,” Patton said. “This leadership is important to helping the Society achieve its goals of advancing the technical, scientific, managerial and ethical knowledge, and skills of safety, health and environmental professionals, and maintain its commitment to protecting people, property and the environment. This is especially true as we are about to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2011. Strong leadership has helped ASSE become the oldest and largest safety society.”
The annual ASSE Leadership Conference aims to bolster leadership skills of all Society volunteers and provide an avenue for officers to meet and interact with peers, share ideas for solving challenges that others may also face and to discuss SH&E updates and issues. The conference will be held at the Westin Hotel in Lombard, IL.
