ASSE Foundation Upbeat About Future, Unveils New Logo
DES PLAINES, IL (September 21, 2012) – To celebrate more than 20 years of helping students and supporting occupational safety, health and environmental research, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation unveiled a new logo today.
The logo is built out of multiple shields showing the Foundation’s connection to ASSE. The three shields overlap and intersect to form a fourth shield at the center, referencing how the Foundation is built upon components of ASSE. When the three shields are placed together, they combine into a central, prominent shield. The designer notes that the unified, stronger shield showcases the collaboration and nurturing side of the Foundation.
In the center of the logo is an icon – a person reading a book, referencing the Foundation’s successful scholarship and grant program. It can also be viewed as a lantern, pointing more broadly to the Foundation’s overarching orientation toward lighting the way to a safer tomorrow.
The Foundation’s tagline is incorporated into the logo. The full tagline, which reads ‘Generosity from you, growth within our profession, safety for all,’ has been abbreviated to ‘Generosity, growth, safety’ for purposes of the logo.
“Our new tagline illustrates that because of the philanthropy of our charitably-minded donors, we are able to provide programs that advance the safety profession, keep more employees safe at work and increase safety everywhere – generosity, growth and safety,” Foundation Chair Fay Feeney, CSP, ARM, of Hermosa Beach, CA, said.
“We haven’t changed who we are. The Foundation is moving forward, eager to bring the safety profession onward and upward and to continue to extend help where help is needed when it comes to continuing to ensure well-educated safety professionals are ready to fill the positions charged with keeping people and businesses around the world safe,” Feeney said.
The Foundation will soon roll out its new on-line scholarship and grant application process. Nearly $180,000 will be available in scholarships and grants for students and professionals at www.asse.org/foundation.
The ASSE Foundation was established by and in partnership with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in 1990. Over the years, the ASSE Foundation has awarded nearly $1.4 million in scholarships and professional education grants, supported almost $400,000 in key research, and endowed a Ph.D. fellowship in occupational safety and health.
The Foundation generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation, and related academic initiatives in order to advance the safety, health, and environmental profession.
Founded in 1911, the Des Plaines, IL-based ASSE is the oldest professional safety society and is committed to protecting people, property and the environment.
