ASSE Foundation Scholarships Awarded to Twenty One Students Attending Universities in Region VII
DES PLAINES, IL (May 25, 2012) – Twenty one students attending universities in
the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Region VII, which consists of Indiana,
Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia are recipients of ASSE
Foundation (ASSEF) 2012 scholarships. Awarded each year to provide assistance
to students entering the growing international field of occupational safety and
health, the scholarships are funded by the continuing support of corporations,
ASSE Regions and Chapters, members and individuals.
The Region VII undergraduate recipients are:
- Stella Amusha, recipient of the $1,000 Blacks in
Safety Engineering Scholarship. Amusha is pursuing a degree in occupational
safety and health at Oakland University, Rochester, MI. - Keri Brady, recipient of the $1,000 Kittyhawk Educational
Enhancement Scholarship. Brady is studying environmental health at Wright State
University, Fairborn, OH. - Martika Clark, recipient of the $5,250 UPS Diversity
Scholarship. Clark is studying occupational safety and health at Murray State University,
Murray, KY. - Ryan Curry is a recipient of the $1,500 Keith Bain
Scholarship, sponsored by ASSE’s Middle Tennessee Chapter. Curry is pursuing a
degree in occupational safety and health at Murray State University. - Alyssa Doherty is the recipient of the $1,000 SiteHawk
Safety Scholarship. Doherty is studying occupational safety and health
management at Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI. - Courtney Draveling, recipient of the $1,200 PDC
Scholarship, sponsored by ASSE’s Practice Specialty Group. Draveling is
studying occupational safety and health management at Grand Valley State
University. - Justin Dugan is the recipient of the $1,000 Warren K.
Brown Scholarship. Dugan is pursuing a degree in safety management at Indiana
State University, Terre Haute, IN. - Rhajaan Edwards is a recipient of the $2,000 Central
Indiana ASSE Jim Kriner Memorial Scholarship. Edwards is studying safety
science at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. - Joseph Fess is the recipient of a $5,000 Bechtel Group
Foundation Scholarship for Safety and Health. Fess is studying occupational
safety and health at Murray State University. - Kory Fox, recipient of a $5,250 UPS Scholarship. Fox
is pursuing a degree in safety technology at Marshall University, Huntington,
WV. - Anthony Marletta, is the recipient of the $1,000 Marsh
Risk Consulting Scholarhsip. Marletta is studying safety science and
environmental management at Indiana University. - Kenneth Martin is the recipient of the $1,000 West
Florida Chapter Scholarship. Martin is studying occupational safety and health
at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY. - Kirby Piatek, recipient of the $1,500 ASSE
Construction Safety Scholarship. Piatek is pursuing a degree in safety science
at Indiana University. - Dominick Rizzo, recipient of the $1,500 Gulf Coast
Past President Scholarship. Rizzo is studying occupational safety and health
management at Grand Valley State University. - Chelsea Salkeld is the recipient of the $1,000 BCSP –
Rick P. Callor Technician/Technologist, Supervisory Scholarship. Salkeld is
pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health at Oakland University. - Christina Stackhouse-Lockard, recipient of a $4,000
Liberty Mutual Scholarship. Stackhouse-Lockard is studying occupational safety
and health at Oakland University. - Marissa Ure, recipient of a $4,000 Liberty Mutual
Scholarship. Ure is pursuing a degree in industrial hygiene/environmental
health at Ohio University, Athens, OH. - Katie Van Huls is the recipient of the $1,000 Pekron
Constulting/Greater Calumet Chapter Scholarship. Van Huls is pursuing a degree
in occupational safety and health management at Grand Valley State University.
Region VII graduate recipients are:
- Triana Fleming, recipient of the $1,000 Thompson
Scholarship for Women in Safety. Fleming is a master’s degree candidate in
occupational safety and health at Murray State University. - Evelee King is a recipient of the $1,500 Harold F.
Polston Scholarship sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Chapter. King is pursuing
her master’s degree in occupational safety and health at Middle Tennessee
University, Murfreesboro, TN. - Luke Welch is a recipient of the $1,000 James P. Kohn
Memorial Scholarship. Welch is pursuing a master’s degree in occupational
safety and health at Murray State University.
This year the ASSE Foundation awarded $155,000 toward
73 scholarships nationwide – 57 at the undergraduate level and 16 at the
graduate level.
