ASSE Author Mark Hansen Releases New Edition of His 2002 Book Out of the Box
Des Plaines, IL (May 17, 2010) — American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) past-president and author Mark D. Hansen, P.E., CSP, CPE, provides readers with career guidance and tips for success in the update of his 2002 ASSE book titled Out of the Box-Skills for Developing Your Own Career Path. Hansen shares his experiences and lessons learned in new areas of responsibility, such as environmental, during the eight years since the book’s initial publication.
In Out of the Box, Hansen provides career guidance for safety, health and environmental (SH&E) managers. Hansen’s personal experiences through company mergers, acquisitions, promotions and his observation of others contributed to the information presented in the text. In addition to presenting information about negotiating salary, building visibility and making the most of a performance review, the book provides excellent tips for improving your likability quotient and developing into an executive manager.
One of the main messages of Hansen’s book is to think strategically about your career to facilitate maximum development and advancement. Hansen presents the importance of developing and reviewing a career “5-year plan” to incorporate learning new skills and assessing the skills needed to advance at the rate and to the level a person desires.
Hansen has over 28 years of experience in safety and environmental management. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Hansen has authored over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles in Professional Safety, Occupational Safety & Health and other SH&E publications. He is an ASSE past-president and received the Edgar-Queeny Monsanto Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award for 1992-1993. Hansen was also awarded the ASSE Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in 1991-1992.
Out of the Box is available in print, as well as electronically in Mobipocket eBook and Adobe Digital Editions.
