Supreme Court Says Medical Residents are Workers
As the press release from the American Medical Student Association explains, at http://www.amsa.org/AMSA/Homepage/About/News/011111.aspx, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on January 11 that medical residents are workers, not students. While the ruling was made concerning whether hospitals that employee them should be paying Social Security taxes for them, the decision is expected to impact long-standing safety-related issues like hours of sleep and the length of their shifts.
