OSHA Issues 2010 Site-Specific Targeting Inspection Plan
According to its directive (http://www.osha.gov/OshDoc/Directive_pdf/CPL_02_10-06.pdf), OSHA’s 2010 Site-Specific Targeting Inspection Plan (SST-10) went into effort on August 18, 2010, and will expire in one year unless replaced earlier by a new directive. According to the OSHA Cooperative Program’s notice of SST-10, the program is OSHA’s main programmed inspection plan for non-construction workplaces that have 40 or more employees. It is based on the data received from the prior year’s OSHA Data Initiative survey. In addition to the SST, OSHA implements both national and local “emphasis” inspection programs to target high-risk hazards and industries. OSHA currently has 11 National Emphasis Programs (NEPs) focusing on amputations, lead, crystalline silica, shipbreaking, trenching/excavations, petroleum refinery process safety management, process safety management covered chemical facilities, hexavalent chromium, diacetyl, recordkeeping, and combustible dust. OSHA also has approximately 140 Regional/Local Emphasis Programs (REPs/LEPs).
