OSHA Delays I2P2 – Small Businesses Wanted for SBREFA Panel

Posted in on Fri, Mar 2, 2012

As the email messages below from SBA and OSHA indicate, OSHA is delaying sending information on its I2P2 rulemaking to the SBA for SBREFA review.   Also, if you have a small business client, they may want to participate in the SBREFA process.  Contact information is below, or let Dave Heidorn know at dheidorn@asse.org.  Safety consulting firms are not the kinds of small businesses that would qualify.

Dear Small Business Representatives:

As you may have already heard, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has notified the potential small entity representatives (SERs) for OSHA’s upcoming Small Business Advocacy Review (SBAR) panel (also called a “SBREFA” panel) for OSHA’s forthcoming Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (I2P2) rule that there will be a brief delay in the panel process while OSHA finalizes the materials for the panel and SERs.  OSHA will provide additional information on the revised schedule in the near future.  A copy of OSHA’s email to the potential SERs is provided below.

I will be sending additional information about the SBREFA panel process and revised schedule as soon as it is available.  In the meantime, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or require additional information.  As Kathy Martinez’ email from OSHA below indicates, my office, the Office of Advocacy within the U.S. Small Business Administration is a government agency that represents the views of small businesses before federal agencies and Congress.  As such, we specifically represent the views of small business in this SBREFA panel process.

Subject: Injury and Illness Prevention Program SBREFA Process

Good Afternoon,

I just wanted to touch base with you regarding the Injury and Illness Prevention Program SBREFA package that OSHA will be sending you.  There has been a delay in the preparation of the package, and unfortunately with this delay we would need to reschedule the Conference Calls.  The new schedule has yet to be determined, but we are working hard to finalize all the documents before they are sent to you.  I will certainly keep you posted on when we will be mailing out these documents and the Conference call schedule when is become available to me.   Thank you so much for your patience and also for helping us with the SBREFA process.

If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact me, Kathy Martinez (SBREFA Coordinator) at (202)-693-1953.  You may also contact Bob Burt (Panel Chair) at (202)-693-1952, or Bruce Lundegren from Office of Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration, whose office represent the views of small business in the SBREFA process at (202) 205-6144.

Kathy Martinez

SBREFA Coordinator
