OSHA Advances NAOSH Week

Posted in on Tue, Dec 20, 2011

ASSE greatly appreciates all that OSHA through its alliance program has done to support NAOSH Week.  This message is sent to OSHA’s alliance partners by the Office of Outreach Services and Alliances within the Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs –

As many of you may know from your Alliance Implementation Team meetings, through the OSHA and American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Alliance, OSHA is continuing to work with ASSE to support North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, which will occur May 6-12, 2012.

I want to share with you information about the 10th annual kids’ “Safety-on-the-Job” poster contest – which is a hallmark of this week – and a highlight of our annual NAOSH Week Kick-Off event here at DOL.  Children in five age groups — 1) ages 5-6; 2) ages 7-8; 3) ages 9-10; 4) ages 11-12; and 5) ages 13-14, are invited to create and submit posters no larger than 11 x 14 that best illustrate being safe at work.  The contest is open not only to ASSE members’ children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, but also to children and schools sponsored by ASSE members.  Aimed at educating children on the importance of safety and health at work and better acquainting them with the job their parents, friends, and relatives do as occupational safety, health and environmental practitioners, the contest runs through February 14, 2012.

The winning poster in each age group is featured on the ASSE NAOSH Week 2012 poster distributed worldwide. In addition, the first place winner in each age group receives a $5,000 savings bond, the second place winner receives a $500 savings bond, and the third and fourth place winners receive a $200 savings bond.  Visit www.asse.org/naosh or www.asse.org/newsroom for highlights of last year’s events and winners.   A copy of the contest rules and entry form is attached.
