NIOSH and Carcinogens

Posted in on Fri, Apr 29, 2011

Paul Schulte, Ph.D., Director, NIOSH Education and Information Division, has written a column for NIOSH eNews laying out NIOSH’s history of addressing workplace carcinogen risks.  From the introduction, Estimates of the fraction of cancers attributable to occupation vary. At least 4% (24,000) of the approximate 600,000 deaths from cancer each year in the United States is thought to be the result of exposures in the workplace….It is likely that this 4% is an underestimate.”  You can read the entire column at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/enews/enewsv8n12.html#guest.
