Fed Agencies Work to Educate Young Workers on Risks from the Sun

Posted in on Mon, Jun 7, 2010

From OSHA –

Through OSHA’s participation in the Federal Network for Young Workers’ Safety and Health (FedNet), we have been made aware of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program entitled SunWise (http://www.epa.gov/sunwise/). The SunWise Program aims to teach people how to protect themselves from overexposure to the sun. While much of the information is geared towards youth, it also has applicability in an outdoor workplace setting.
Employers may be interested in the various materials that EPA has available about protection from ultraviolet radiation, skin cancer, and other related hazards and issues. Much of this information is also available in Spanish (http://www.epa.gov/sunwise/es/index.html).

The SunWise Program is also affiliated with “Don’t Fry Day (http://skincancerprevention.org/),” which is scheduled for May 28, 2010. The “Don’t Fry Day” Web site has additional information and materials specifically geared toward outdoor workers.
