DOL OIG Report on MSHA Efforts to Deter Underreporting

The DoL’s Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) Office of Audit conducted a performance audit of MSHA actions to detect and deter underreporting of accidents and occupational injuries and illnesses from 2010 to 2012.  Basically, the report concluded that MSHA has taken steps to detect and deter underreporting of accidents but could do more to strengthen its process for detecting and deterring underreporting of injuries and illnesses.  The report can be found at
