ASSE Supports NIOSH in WTC Responder Health Care Bill

Posted in on Mon, Sep 27, 2010

A bill, HR 847, http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:HR00847:|/home/LegislativeData.php|, to fund health care for 9/11 World Trade Center responders failed in the House of Representatives in July while the Senate has taken no action on a companion bill, SB 1344, http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:SN01334:|/home/LegislativeData.php|. Without passage of this legislation, ASSE is concerned that NIOSH’s ability both to continue to operate its World Trade Center Health Program and maintain its primary mission of supporting occupational safety and health research and education is threatened. ASSE expressed its support for NIOSH in a letter (http://www.asse.org/professionalaffairs_new/) commending SB 1344’s sponsor, Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand (http://gillibrand.senate.gov/) for her leadership in supporting NIOSH in the bill.
