Practice Specialty Assistant Administrator – Construction


Shawn R. King, CSP, CHST


Shawn R. King, CSP, CHST is currently a Project Director in Black & Veatch’s Renewable Energy group.  With 26 years of safety and health experience his past roles within Black & Veatch have included the Associate Vice President of Environmental, Safety, Health and Security (ESH&S) for the Energy, Water and Construction & Procurement Divisions of the company.  In these roles Shawn has been responsible for providing environmental, safety, health and security related services to all business and division professionals, offices, projects, and clients for Black & Veatch worldwide.

Shawn has been a Professional Member of ASSE since 2002 and has been participating as the Construction Practice Specialty Advisory Board BoK Chair since 2012.

Shawn currently sits on two ANSI A10 Construction and Demolition Operations subcommittees, the ANSI/ASSE A10.16 Safety Requirements for Tunnels, Shafts, and Caissons and the ANSI/ASSE A10.21 Safety Requirements for Safe Construction and Demolition of Wind Generation/Turbine Facilities.  Shawn has also been a committee member on the Construction Industry Institute’s Research PT 216 Committee Targeting Safety and a member of the Zurich National Construction Safety Roundtable.

Platform Statement

As I have attended various ASSE Professional Development Conferences over the last decade I am amazed at how the number of international attendees has increased.  This speaks to the Strategic Plan’s Mission and Vision Statements of a global association and advocate for the advancement of its members and the profession.  As a safety professional that has had responsibilities on a global basis I know this strategic direction is imperative to improve the profession around the world and I am committed to assisting the Society in that strategic direction.

Hand in hand with the global footprint for the Society are the technological advancements that will improve all safety professional’s ability to do their job regardless of location and the ability to transfer knowledge on a worldwide basis.  The Society needs to help lead the innovative solutions through technological advancements that will help improve the professional’s knowledge and skills.
I look forward to supporting the Society in their growth for excellence on a global basis.
