Platform Statement

I recently got to visit the Society headquarters and see the famed Presidents’ Room. It was awe-inspiring to stand in the room and see the photographs of all the great men and women who have served as President of our Society. As I stood there, it dawned on me that at some point in their careers each of these people was just like you and me – a member of ASSE trying to figure out where we belong in this organization. How did these few get from member to President – via a great Chapter!

Bishop Gore said, “Exceed expectation. We are not driven to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary things extraordinarily well.” As Region IV Area Director, my focus will be to help our Chapters recruit, retain and nurture members, and to help them find their path in ASSE. I think Chapter meetings, professional development, communication, and leadership development are four ordinary things that when done extraordinarily well will help our Chapters and our members flourish.

It is a great time to be safety, health, and environmental professionals. There are challenges to each of us, no doubt, and the keys to overcoming many of the challenges can be within ASSE. I look forward to helping the members of Region IV find those keys.
