Platform Statement

My platform is focused on spreading health and safety knowledge as well as exciting new and existing professionals about our increasingly-important field. Working within BISE allows me the unique opportunity to focus on introducing this field to members of my African-American community while also working to maintain a tight national network of members. I recognize the enormous potential of working in the health and safety field and I am driven to share this opportunity with members of my community. African-Americans make up a small, but increasing portion of the overall safety profession as well as ASSE members. I feel that it is my duty, and BISE’s duty, to connect those individuals and create awareness of this profession and its potential within the African-American community.

As a millennial (despite my disdain for the term), I think that it is even more important to focus our efforts on educating and exciting the younger members and potential members of our profession. The Great Shift Change is rapidly approaching and the demand for new professionals with a fresh perspective is growing. My inclusion in this age demographic positions me well to relate closely with the group of young professionals that should be a target for BISE’s outreach. Ultimately, I am seeking this role in order to connect other African-Americans with a rewarding and prosperous career opportunity while working to build a strong network both personally and for the organization. I have a passion for this profession which has afforded me many opportunities and has been fulfilling beyond my wildest expectations. It is my mission to share that passion with others and leave a legacy of inspired, dedicated and excited safety professionals in any organization in which I participate.
