Biography

Gribow began his safety career in 1975 while working for a construction company specializing in residential insulation. During that time, he realized that further advancement in the safety profession could be enhanced with a safety degree and entered graduate school at Northern Illinois University in 1977. He attained his master’s degree in Industrial Technology with an emphasis in Industrial Safety in 1979.

Following graduation, he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, and became employed with the Arizona State Compensation Fund (now SCF Arizona) in June of 1980. He worked for this company for 26 ¾ years, rising through the ranks to the Loss Control Manager position.

During this time, Gribow found his niche as a promoter of occupational safety and discovered the value of the services provided by ASSE. He became the Arizona Chapter Membership Chair in 1983, holding that position until 2003. At that time, he was appointed as a replacement vice-president and rose through the chairs to Chapter President.

During his time as President-Elect, Gribow became involved in the Region II Operating Committee and found that he enjoyed the interaction with the representatives from the Chapters within the Region. This continued throughout his Presidency and as Immediate Past President and chapter delegate, inspiring him to seek further involvement in ASSE offices at the Regional and possibly National level. He considers the opportunity to use his experience to serve the members of Region II-Area A as Area Director to be both a privilege, and the first step in pursuing an office at the Society level.

Platform Statement

My name is Harold Gribow, and I am running for Area A Director in Region II of ASSE. I am immediate past-president of the Arizona Chapter, a CSP and hold the ARM certification, as well. I received my master’s degree in safety from Northern Illinois University in 1979. As a 26 year member of ASSE I have enjoyed many benefits of participation in the Society. The educational benefits alone make it a worthwhile organization to join, but my membership has also proven to be a valuable networking opportunity and also has allowed me to gain many friends both professional and personal.

The Arizona Chapter is my home chapter and is one that is held in high esteem throughout ASSE. It also has a very high percentage of members who are involved in the continued advancement of the Chapter’s reputation. Every successful chapter has a core group that becomes the “soul” of the group and helps the chapter continue to grow and thrive. We are fortunate in Arizona to have quite a few of those core group members who have been and stayed involved for many years.

As Area A Director within our Region II, I would like to help other Chapters within our Region develop a similar feeling of camaraderie and belonging that will assist them in attracting and retaining members, and further the benefits of belonging to such a fine professional organization.

I thank you in advance for your support to allow me to achieve these goals.
