Biography

Reg III - DBaker PhotoDENIS BAKER, CSP, ASP, CRIS, John Maxwell says, "Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less." As Denis reflected on his past leadership struggles, he realized how accurate and relevant John's quote is. Because, without influence, there is no leadership, and if there is no leadership, you can achieve nothing worthwhile. With an immense desire and passion for increasing his and other safety professional’s influence, Denis began teaching safety professionals how to become an influential leader.

Denis holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He is past President of the Oklahoma City Chapter, serves on the Region III ROC as ARVP of Membership and Chapter Affairs. And He is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). Denis is an active speaker and trainer at many Chapter, Regional and National PDC’s.

Mr. Baker is a Certified Executive/Business Coach, Trainer and Keynote Speaker for the John Maxwell Group and currently, serves as the National HSE Leader for Ferguson Fire & Fabrication. He has over 25 years safety and risk management experience. Denis has extensive experience in various industries and has established himself as a leader within many companies, organizations, and associations. He is a passionate influencer committed to teaching and communicating practical and relevant influencing techniques to create more effective leaders to reduce injuries and organizational risk.

Platform Statement

It is an honor to be considered for the Region III, Vice President position. With the support of my wife, employer, and colleagues, I believe I can assist each chapter to achieve their goals and objectives, providing each member with an opportunity to become a stronger, more influential professional. As the Region III VP, my goals are to; 1. Increase membership and meeting attendance by ensuring a value-added experience. 2. Support and influence EACH chapter to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop sustainable plans with the ultimate goal of achieving PLATNIUM Chapter status. Not because it is the ultimate achievement, but instead of the extraordinary benefits, it provides to each member. 3. Work with chapter leadership to increase networking opportunities by providing an atmosphere where members can openly request assistance and explore professional opportunities. 4. Maximize current and future technologies. 5. To increase student participation in student sections, local chapters, and within the Regional Operating Committee. I desire to ensure students are fully immersed in what it takes to be an effective and influential safety leader when they graduate. 6. To increase the level of leadership within the profession, ensuring we have safety professionals who are very influential in their position and can effectively lead their organization's effort to a safer workplace. 7. Revisit our current PDC format and make necessary changes to become recognized nationally as the premier PDC event. 8. To support and embrace the vision of Society and provide a network of qualified professionals to serve in positions and lead our profession into the future. It is my commitment to advance each chapter and to support members through a sincere desire to further enhance the membership value by helping each chapter provide valuable networking and professional development opportunities for every Safety Professional.
