As an ASSE member since May of 2002, Karen has demonstrated her commitment to both the Society and her chapter. Karen first served as the South Florida Chapter secretary for three years when she was nominated to the position of president-elect. While president-elect, she was called upon to perform many of the president’s responsibilities in his absence. Karen was honored to serve two times as the chapter president. She is now serving as immediate past-president and delegate for the chapter.
Having been a member of the South Florida Chapter for the past 10 years and serving on the Executive Committee for over 6 of them, I have seen the power of the Society and the Chapters in bringing safety awareness to the community. I have been fortunate to be in a Chapter where the members of the Executive Committee are so in tune with the safety needs of our members and go to great lengths to promote the many benefits of the Society. I have been inspired by those not only in our Chapter but in our Region who give so much of their time to promote what they believe in. The work that goes on behind the scenes is unlimited. My qualifications and commitment to ASSE speak for themselves. I’m proud of the American Society of Safety Engineers and I feel passionate about building our Chapters and working together as a huge safety family to keep our workers safe to go home to their families at the end of the day.
The Area Director is extremely important in keeping the communications open to and from the Chapters as well as the Region. No one should feel left out or confused with their Chapter. I would embrace the opportunity to serve in the position of Region IV Area Director. As your Area Director, I would work hard to ensure the Chapters are provided with the information and tools they need to build their Chapters membership and participation. I have learned from some of the best in my Chapter. My goal is to share my knowledge and commitment with you. I also believe that we need to promote attending other Chapters meetings and PDC’s. I’m a strong believer in the tools provided by the Society on the Website. There is a wealth of information and ideas out there that we can share with each other. If elected, I will support our Society and Region IV Chapters to the very best of my abilities. We are members of a very strong and important Society and I would be proud to serve Region IV as Area Director.
