Knowing how the elements of your safety management system (SMS) influence one another enables you to optimize the effectiveness of your safety process and create a more accurate picture of risk and loss potential for your organization. The methodology of “Closing the Loop” that you will learn in this seminar will guide you in recognizing when a component of your safety system is not functioning at the expected level, readily identify the real reason for this poor performance and give you an understanding of the impact that one element of your SMS has on the entire organization. These steps will ensure that your SMS is fully integrated with all aspects of your organization’s goals.
Learn to
• Identify the critical junctures where a variation in one element of your SMS will negatively impact another element
• Examine risk as a symptom of poorly defined workplace systems and not as an isolated occurrence
• Organize the parts of your SMS in a logical framework to optimize safety performance
• Apply a measure of leading indicators to evaluate the overall performance of your SMS
• Establish procedures for communicating safety performance results with all employees in your organization
