683 The Impact of Obesity in Workers’ Compensation

Obesity creates unique challenges to ensuring workplace safety and injured workers that are considered obese (Body Mass Index greater than 30%) have significantly higher costs associated with their work-related injuries. This session will explore the implications of obesity and the impact on workers’ compensation claims. Attendees will learn what the Insurance Institute of America and National Council on Compensation Insurance have identified as some alarming trends. Data from the Center for Disease Control’s “Weight of the Nation” Conference will be provided.
