OSHA Assistant Secretary David Michaels Speaks at Safety 2010 Plenary Session
Dr. David Michaels, Assistant Secretary of Labor, OSHA, spoke at the June 14, 2010 Plenary Session at the Safety 2010 Professional Development Conference in Baltimore. Dr. Michaels addressed key issues and concerns of SH&E professionals on the activities and impact of the regulatory, standards development and compliance assistance efforts of the Federal Government. After his speech, Dr. Michaels sat down with PDC Committee Chairperson Diana Stegall for a question and answer session and took questions from conference attendees via pre-recorded video and text messages.

ASSE Signs Letter of Agreement with Singapore Institution of Safety Officers at Safety 2010
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO) signed an agreement on June 14, 2010 to work together on areas of mutual interest and benefit. This agreement will serve as the means to enhance and establish a framework for cooperative efforts. ASSE and SISO agreed to seek opportunities for cooperative effort in standards development, professional practice, professional development, and community service. There will be an emphasis on the joint use on communications capabilities to promote cooperation, reciprocal activities and mutually beneficial initiatives. Both organizations will appoint respective liaisons to facilitate communication between the organizations and coordinate the public release of information concerning both organizations and impacting the SH&E profession.

You might think things are bad, but no matter how bad things seem to be, Joe Malarkey can make it worse! He will poke fun at all the tried, trusted and clichéd business and motivational classics you have heard before. Malarkey will share his upsidedown, “Choose to Lose” viewpoint on a variety of topics. Nonsense? You bet! He ties it all together with an important message: You can’t let the chance of failure prevent you from taking the steps to succeed.
The Executive Summit Panel will discuss senior management’s views on the importance of employee safety and health and the expectations business and industry leaders have on the role of safety and health professionals. Understanding the perspective of executives at the highest levels of their organizations is a critical element of success for safety and health professionals. The panel, moderated by a practicing safety professional, will include questions submitted by attendees.

Join the discussion and share your ideas, challenges and successes in each moderated session. The roundtable sessions will be conducted during the concurrent session periods and limited seating is available, first-come, first-served.

Attendees earn 1.8 CEUs for the conference, which includes the Wednesday lunch (1.7 without lunch). ABIH has awarded 0.5 point per 0.5 day. #10-364. IHMM has awarded 20 CMPs for full attendance.
Pre- and Post-Conference Seminars
Maximize your learning opportunities by attending ASSE’s Pre- and Post-conference seminars and workshops to give you the opportunity to take action on advancing your career and earn up to 5.3 additional CEU/COCs. You can also gain extra CM points and CMPs by taking advantage of the 42 one, two or three-day seminars offered before and after the Conference.

The conference will be held June 13-16. Preconference seminars are being offered Thursday, June 10 through Sunday, June 13 and post-conference seminars will be held Wednesday, June 16 through Saturday, June 19. This year, we are offering both the CHST (pre-conference) and OHST (post-conference) preparation workshops in addition to the ASP/CSP preparation.
An Academic Forum will be held Tuesday, June 15 starting at 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Eligible attendees are full-time academicians and members of the Academics Practice Specialty.
