What’s Safety 2009 and the PDC and what’s a PDC?

Safety 2009 is ASSE’s weeklong event, which includes the Professional Development Conference (PDC) and Exposition and advance, pre and post conference seminars. You can decide to attend the entire event, or just the PDC, or just a pre or post conference seminars.

The PDC is the Professional Development Conference and Exposition, which includes the opening reception in the exhibit hall, full access to the exhibits, all general and plenary sessions, all educational sessions offered Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and the luncheons on Monday and Tuesday. The advance, pre and post conference seminars and the Thursday lunch are for an additional price.

What is the ASSE Service Center?

It is a designated area outside the exhibit hall for one-stop shopping for all your professional needs. ASSE staff is available to answer any question you have:

• Membership – find out how to make the most of your membership and how to become a member.
• Professional Development – Discover the latest educational opportunities to advance your career. ASSE offers seminars and symposia, seminarfest, webinars and hot topic workshops to give you the most up to date educational opportunity.
• Practices and Standards – Make your membership work harder for you by joining a Practice Specialty, a specialty practice area of SH&E such as Academics, Construction, Consulting, Engineering, Environment, Healthcare, Industrial Hygiene, Insurance, International, Management, Mining, Public Sector, and Transportation.
• Professional Affairs – The Society proactively works with legislators and regulators to enhance safety, health and environmental professional qualifications, safety and health program criteria, technical standards, and other areas of hazard recognition and control impacting the S, H & E profession.
• Marketplace – Stop by the ASSE marketplace (Store) to purchase publications on how to communicate to management and employees, skill building, safety measurement and much more. ASSE logo items such as polo shirts, golf balls, and stuffed animals can also be found there.

What is the NexSteps© Career Center?

It is ASSE’s job placement center where job seekers go to post resumes or view postings by companies seeking to hire a safety, health and/or environmental professional. Employers post positions and browse through resumes to seek potential employees. During the week of Safety 2009, ASSE allows jobs to be posted at no charge!

I’m new to the PDC.

How do I figure it all out? On Monday, June 29 at 9:30 am, come to the New Attendee Orientation where you will learn how to get around the PDC, how to facilitate networking opportunities, and how to become a member. Don’t miss this if this is your first time, if you are a new member, or want to become a member.

How many CEUs do I earn?

Attendees earn 1.7 CEUs for the conference. If you attend the Conference and the closing Wednesday lunch (additional fee charged) you will earn 1.8 CEUs. Up to 3.5 CEUs, as well as additional CM points and CMPs may be earned for the pre and post-conference seminars. Pre and post conference seminars earn CEUs depending upon their length. Find out how many CEUs are awarded next to each pre and/or post conference seminar title. CIHs earn 3.0 Safety CM Points (#09-256) for the conference. CMPs for CHMMs are 1.0 for the conference.
