ASSE invites those interested in presenting at its 2014 Professional Development Conference to submit a proposal
for review by the Conference Planning Committee. Safety 2014 will provide a forum for safety, health and environmental (SH&E) professionals to:
- Identify key issues facing SH&E professionals
- Expand their knowledge and professional skills
- Prepare for the challenges in the SH&E fields
- Engage in the discourse concerning the profession
- Identify emerging issues relevant to the profession
The committee is particularly interested in advanced, technically oriented and practical presentations.
DETAILS & POLICY
Presentation Description: (Recommended length 1 page, maximum length is 3 pages)
Describe your presentation and specify expected learning outcomes for attendees. Indicate the session level.
Levels are evaluated with respect to attendee experience with a topic as follows:
- Basic: 2 to 5 years’ experience
- Intermediate: 6 to 10 years’ experience
- Advanced: 10 plus years’ experience
- Executive: Senior SH&E management
Brochure Description: Provide a 50-word (max.) description of the presentation to be included in the conference brochure.
Biographical Data & References: (Maximum length is 2 pages)
For each speaker, include as a minimum:
- Name
- Address
- Education
- Current position
- Certifications, designations, qualifications and relevant speaking experience (that address qualifications to present)
- Contact information (work phone number) for three references
- Noteworthy articles and publications from the past 3 years
Multiple Submissions: No more than two proposals (the first two received) from one speaker will be considered. Complete a separate application form for each proposal.
Length of Presentation: Presentations are either 1 or 1¼ hours, including 15 minutes for questions.
Proceedings Paper: Speakers must submit a paper based on their presentation for the proceedings that is provided to conference attendees. Details on preparing the proceedings paper are provided upon selection. Papers are due March 7, 2014.
Honoraria: Individual speakers (one or two speakers per session) receive a full complimentary conference registration. Group/panel presenters receive a complimentary registration for the day on which they speak and a reduced rate for the balance of the conference. Travel, lodging and meal expenses are the responsibility of the speaker.
Speaker proposals are evaluated objectively by the Professional Development Conference Planning Committee with consideration of the following criteria:
- Degree to which the proposed session meets the conference/program objectives, as contained in the Call for Presenters.
- Presentation skills and experience of the speaker
- Desirability of the topic to the conference attendees
Successful applicants comply with all provisions and guidelines of the Call for Presenters. The proposal should clearly articulate the specific qualifications and experience of each presenter to speak on the proposed topic(s) and would include: education (degree, institution, area of study), professional credentials (licenses, certifications, designations) that are recognized and/or accredited as well as documented experience that demonstrates expertise in the subject area of the proposal. There is no set list of credentials or degrees.
Proposals to present also must contain and convey sufficient detail to allow the selection committee to understand the learning objectives and how the proposed session will meet those objectives. Marketing material, promotional flyers, PowerPoint slides, photographs or similar material are not accepted. Selection is competitive; therefore, it is important to submit a compelling and complete proposal in accordance with the Call for Presenters.
Steps to Submit a Proposal
- Complete an application form for each proposal submitted (two maximum).
- Follow all submission instructions and review the application(s) for completeness, accuracy and legibility. See Details & Policy section for more information.
- Sign the application where indicated. (No signature is needed for electronic submissions.)
- Do not submit PowerPoint presentations, CDs, disks, brochures or promotional material.
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Proposals are due July 19, 2013
Acceptance notification will be mailed by November 12, 2013
