Executive Program in Safety Management

The Certificate from the Executive Program in Safety Management may be taken to complete the Certificate in the Executive Program in Safety Management or each seminar can be studied independently as continuing education. To receive the certificate participants must successfully complete three required seminars and electives that together total 7.5 CEUs in a period of five years.

Eligibility

You are eligible for this program if you satisfy one of the following criteria

  • Completion of the ASSE Certificate in Safety Management
  • CSP, CHMM, ARM or CIH certification
  • Professional Member of ASSE
  • Baccalaureate degree plus five years’ experience in safety
  • Professional engineer working in the SH&E field

Required Seminars 4.9 CEUs:

Electives 2.6 CEUs
The electives needed to complete the CEU requirement for the Executive Program in Safety Management can be earned at the following ASSE events. 

  • Certification Preparation Workshops offered throughout the year and various locations. Preparation is offered for ASP, CSP, CHST, OHST and a one-day math review seminar is also available.
  • SeminarFest held at the beginning of each year is a program offering more than 50 seminars over a weeklong period.
  • Safety Symposia are offered several times throughout the year.
  • Pre and Post Professional Development Conference Seminars are held every June.
  • Safety topic Webinars are offered monthly.

The Professional Development Conference and programs delivered by ASSE regions or chapters are not eligible to satisfy elective requirements.

Instructors

Thomas Cecich, CSP, CIH

Mr. Cecich, has extensive experience in SH&E and previously he was Vice-President EHS Global Business Support at GlaxoSmithKline and had safety management positions at the IBM and Allied Chemical Corporations.

He holds a BS and MS in Industrial Engineering. He is member of the graduate faculty at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine where he teaches a graduate course entitled "Financial Aspects of Health and Safety".

He is a 38 year member of ASSE serving in various positions such as past president of the North Carolina Chapter, ASSE Foundation trustee, governmental affairs strategic planning, professional development conference, educational standards and public relations committees. He is a two time recipient of the Society's Culbertson Award and also received the ASSE President's award. He also served on the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, Chairman of the Board of the Manufacturers and Chemical Industry Council of North Carolina, and member of the NC Environmental Management Commission. He is a co-author of the landmark National Science Foundation study Climate Change Impacts on the United States.

James "Skipper" Kendrick, CSP

James "Skipper" Kendrick, has over 30 years-experience in the fields of management, safety, education and training. Named by Occupational Hazards magazine as one of the most influential safety leaders of the last decade, he was formerly the Director, EHS Training for Textron Inc., responsible for developing and leading EHS training strategies for businesses in 29 different countries with up to 45,000 employees worldwide. Prior to this position, Mr. Kendrick was Manager, Industrial Safety and Hygiene for Bell Helicopter.

He holds a ASSE's Certificate in Safety Management and Executive Program in Safety Management Certificate, certified OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer, certified Six Sigma Green Belt, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, with a safety option, from Louisiana State University. Mr. Kendrick is a professional member of ASSE and has been named as an ASSE Fellow, recognized for outstanding service and dedication, been named Safety Trainer of the Year, Safety Professional of the Year at the Chapter, Region and National level.

C. David Langlois, CSP

Mr. Langlois has over 20 years-experience in the safety and training field, teaching certification preparation workshops, safety management, inspections and audits, accident investigations, industrial hygiene, hazard recognition, and substance abuse awareness He has served as an instructor at Louisiana State University from 1981 until 1989, teaching courses in occupational safety, supervision, training, and maintenance management.

He holds a Master's in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Louisiana State University and. Mr. Langlois is a professional member of ASSE and has been named as an ASSE Fellow, recognized for outstanding service and dedication, as well as past president of the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter.

Thomas L. Roberts, CSP, CIH, Occupational & Industrial Health Systems, Inc.

Mr. Roberts has over 20 years-experience in the petrochemical, manufacturing and environmental, safety and health. He has developed and taught comprehensive courses in industrial hygiene, hazardous materials, emergency response, environmental compliance and a variety of OSHA standards. He is an Adjunct Instructor for Texas A&M University, taught at Lamar University, Oklahoma State University and Stephen F. Austin University. He serves on the ANSI Z390 Committee on Safety Requirements for H2S Training and the ANSI Z490 Committee on Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology and has done post-graduate work in chemistry.

Kathy Seabrook, CSP, CMIOSH

Ms. Seabrook is best known for her work in strategic/global SH&E management and recognized as an international speaker, leadership educator and seminar presenter. She has been published in several books including, ASSE's Safety Professional's Handbook.

Ms. Seabrook is a professional member of ASSE. Her leadership experience spans the chapter, region and Board of Directors levels serving the Society in Council on Professional Affairs Sustainability Taskforce, Vice President of Council on Practices and Standards, Council of Member and Region Affairs Global Committee, advisory committee for International Practice Specialty, Women in Safety Engineering, IOSH International Group, and International Membership Taskforce, Society Strategic Planning, Bylaws, Professional Development Conference Planning, Business of Safety and Admissions committees. She has received ASSE's Practice Specialty, Safety Professional of the Year; Charles V. Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service awards; and IOSH's Distinguished Service award.

She Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and has a BS in Chemistry.

Joel N. Tietjens, CSP, CSHM

Mr. Tietjens has over 30 years in the safety profession. He has used his knowledge base for the insurance, energy, industrial services and food and beverage industries. He has extensive experience with the Texas Department of Insurance Workers' Compensation Division.

He holds a Bachelor of Science, Industrial Safety, University of Central Missouri. Mr. Tietjens is a professional member of ASSE. He been named as an ASSE Fellow, recognized for outstanding service and dedication, two time recipient as Safety Professional of the Year ASSE Region lll and Gulf Coast Chapter, and has served as president of the Gulf Coast Chapter.

Michael Weigand, Ed.D, CSP

Mr. Weigand has 24 years-experience in the safety and health field, teaching certification preparation workshops, occupational safety, safety management audits, safety law and training, industrial hygiene, fire science, accident investigation, construction safety, and substance abuse awareness. He has been a CSP since 1979 and has served as an instructor at Louisiana State University from 1980 until 1989.

He holds a Doctor of Education in Safety Education from Texas A&M University, Master's in Safety Management from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety & Health from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Weigand is a professional member of ASSE.
