More than 300 people die each year in ladder-related incidents, and improper ladder use is consistently on OSHA’s 10 most frequently cited violations. To raise awareness among employers, employees and the public, American Ladder Institute (ALI) has declared March as National Ladder Safety Month.

“Without better training and continuous innovation in safety, planning and product design, we will continue to see far too many fatalities,” says Ryan Moss, ALI president. “National Ladder Safety Month will heighten awareness, reinforce safety training and educate homeowners and working professionals. The American Ladder Institute is calling upon all individuals and organizations throughout the nation to promote and to participate in ladder safety.”

The month’s initiative is divided into four focus areas that support ladder safety:

  • March 1-11: Overall importance of ladder safety;
  • March 12-18: Ladder safety at work;
  • March 19-25: Ladder safety at home;
  • March 26-April 1: Ladder inspection and disposal.

ALI has provided several online resources to help support this initiative, such as the basics of ladder safety, checklists, training resources and standards information.
